Directions. The Old Mill Cottage is just outside the village of Down St Mary in the heart of rural mid Devon. Down St Mary is off the A377 Exeter to Barnstaple road. See map here. Suggested route from the M5 (heading southbound): Exit M5 at Junction 27, take the 3rd exit off the roundabout onto the A361 towards Tiverton. After 5.5 miles, take the exit signposted A396 Bickleigh & Tiverton. At the top of the slip road, take the 1st exit. The next stretch is about 5 miles. Follow the A396 over one mini roundabout then turn right at the main roundabout signposted Bickleigh Town Centre, and follow the Bickleigh A396 (Crediton A3072) signs. At the third roundabout turn left, signed Bickleigh & Crediton and proceed along this road until you reach a sharp right turn, just before Bickleigh Bridge, signed Crediton A3072. To help you recognise that the sharp turn is coming up, there is a pub called The Trout on the right hand side of the road, and as you turn, another pub, The Fisherman’s Cot, on the left. After 8 winding, but very picturesque miles, you reach the town of Crediton. Go past Mole Avon and Somerfield supermarket on the outskirts of Crediton and at the T junction take the sharp right, signposted Barnstaple A377. Drive through the town and in about 5 miles you will reach the village of Copplestone. Go through Copplestone and bear right staying on the A377 Barnstaple road. A further 2 miles will bring you to Morchard Road (a village, not a road). Turn left opposite the Devonshire Dumpling, signposted Down St Mary – there is also a brown tourist sign for the Vineyard & Winery. Drive into and through the village keeping the church on the right and the village green on your left. At the bottom of the green there is a forked road. Take the right fork, signposted Zeal Monachorum and vineyard (though neither sign is very prominent!) There is also a blue weight restriction sign at the top of this road. The Old Mill and the cottage are ¾ mile down this road past a house on the right and Middle Yeo farm, just before the bridge. When you arrive. Please drive through the gates, which open automatically, park and come up to the main house. We will give you your keys and show you over the cottage. There is a Visitors Pack in the cottage which should answer any additional questions and which will give you information about the area. We are also usually close by if there is anything you need
When you leave. In order to prepare the property for incoming guests, it is important that you are ready to leave by 10am on the last day of your holiday. Please leave the cottage clean and tidy, as it was when you arrived. |
